Can’t find a version of this with the legs in but its worth seeing in all its glory at El Prado in Madrid. The grotesque contortion and warping of the figure are worthy of any Francis Bacon. And from a man who lived 500 years before him.
Beautiful.

I have been listening to a lot of this podcast recenty. There are very few radio-based things about animation or illustration that interest me but this guy, despite being an accomplished illustrator, is a pretty good interviewer too.
Terrifying
Ronald Searle died today. Aside from leaving us with 3/4s of a century’s worth of cool drawings, his sketchbooks from the POW camp at Changi Gaol in Singapore, and later in Thailand, provide some of the saddest and most fascinating pieces of reportage from the second world war. His dedication to observational illustration under the most oppressive conditions, and in the face of very uncertain odds is immensely inspiring to all those of us who sometimes doubt the value of craftsmanship, and its ability to mediate genuine emotion.
I first saw his blood-soaked sketchbooks on a school trip to The Imperial War Museum. It made me look at illustration in a new light.

Russian Dreams by Sergey Ovcharov. I was put on to this by Evgenia Golubeva. I think its a pretty clever and stylish little film.
Dasies by Véra Chytilová. All on Youtube for nothing. Its bonkers and very stylish. Check the soundtrack too.
I saw this exhibition in paris a few years ago, it was pretty inspiring.
Less well known than a lot of his other films, but visually incredible.
